What's on offer this season

The new season of Travel Talks offers some new speakers as well as a number of familar speakers giving presentations of their travels.

Wednesday 4th October 2017
“New Zealand; The Four Elements” Les and Pauline Mason open the season as they describe New Zealand’s Earth, Air, Fire and Water, as they travel around New Zealand on a long excursion, visiting family.

Wednesday 18thOctober 2017
In his talk
“Land of the Rising Sun” Ray Wilson shows us Japan itself, aspects of Japanese life, and the tensions between ancient traditions and modern innovation.  

Wednesday 1st November 2017
“An Englishman in Patagonia” A classic story from John Pilkington’s early travels, recounting eight months in what has become known as “The Uttermost Part of the Planet.”

Wednesday 8th November 2017
With Pax Garabedian we travel to Java and Sumatra just  
“Two out of 13,667 Islands,” visiting orangutans in Sumatra, ancient temples including Borobadur, and Mount Bromo in Java and meeting smiling people.

Wednesday 22nd November 2017
Keith and Sue Clark will take us to
“The Other Half of Chile” on their 2nd visit to the country, exploring the Chiloe Islands, the Lake District, the Wine region, & spectacular Atacama Desert.

Wednesday 6th December 2017
Tonight sees our Members’ Evening when three volunteers give us three different travelogues:

  • Bill & Pippa Bowden, who love to travel to Italy, give us “The Marche-Italy’s Undiscovered Jewel”

  • Karen Stretch shows us one of her favourite Cities in  “Berlin-A Tale of Two Cities.”

  • Glenda Whiteside spent two years working and living in “Galicia-Spain’s Best kept Secret,” ... secrets she will share.

Chris and Keith Buxton have spent several Christmases, with friends in Florida and taken the opportunity to discover the decline and recovery of
“The Endangered Everglades.”

Wednesday 2 1st February 2018
Gordon and Anne Sharp give us
“An Evening with Spellbound Films” visiting the Kenya’s Masai Mara, and after the interval, short films including the Venice Carnival.

Wednesday 7th March 2018
Nick Burton, an author and broadcaster, takes us on a long distance walk from Blackburn to Buttermere
“In the Footsteps of Wainwright,” linking the great man’s birthplace and his final resting place on Haystacks, above Buttermere.

Wednesday 21st March 2018
Tonight Keith Holmes travels from Chesterfield to tell us about
“The Villas & Gardens of Lake Como,” pictured against a spectacular backdrop of the mountains and lake.

Wednesday 11th April 2018
Julie and David Swift enjoy American travel and will share their experiences in
”Cowboy Country and Beyond” visiting Colorado, Montana, Wyoming & Utah.

Wednesday 25th April 2018
Alan & Pat Porrett visit Austria regularly and will share their love of the country, in both winter and summer, in
“Tyrolean Images. “

Wednesday 9th May 2018
Tonight is the AGM followed by Peter Logan, who has visited North Korea twice, a country that is not a standard travel destination!  He tells us about
“North Korea Revisited.”
