What's on offer this season

The new season of Travel Talks offers some new speakers as well as a number of familar speakers giving presentations of their travels to such places as Hong Kong, Trinidad and Tobago, Ethiopia, Bhutan, Atlanta, The Vercors, Scicily, and Tuscany to name but a few.

Wednesday 28th September 2016
“Trinidad & Tobago, (An Almost Perfect Paradise)”. Chris and Keith Buxton take a more unusual view of both islands from pirates and slavery to people and their colourful
cultures, as well as the wildlife..

Wednesday 19th October 2016
Tonight “Treading Lightly”, on
“Journeys among the Mountains of Europe by Boot, Snowshoe & Train” with Darren Axe, a new speaker who travelled from Lancaster by bike last year to hear our celebrity speaker John Pilkington!

Wednesday 2nd November 2016
“The Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan via Kathmandu” is the latest Journey of our much travelled friends Steuart & Anita Kellington.

David Edwards witnessed the eruptions in 1995 that changed Montserrat’s destiny and now he returns show us what it is like to live on the new Montserrat in
“Montserrat-Reclaiming Paradise.”

Mo Holland looks at Oman and the United Arab Emirates, where tourism is now a welcome part of the country’s move into the 21st century, in her talk
“The Arabian Peninsula”.

Tonight sees our Members’ Evening when 3 volunteers give us three different travelogues:

  • Bill & Pippa Bowden show us “Inspector Montalbano’s Sicily”

  • David & Julie Swift take us to “Highlights of Tuscany”

  • Joan Gaffiney gives us “Qatar Behind the Hype”

David & Karen Stretch are enthusiastic travellers to America and take us to
“Atlanta and Surrounds”. This is Atlanta, Georgia & Tennessee, areas new to us.

“Vercors, the Forgotten France”, Les and Pauline Mason return to uncover the turbulent and tragic history of the Vercors Massif in southeast France, discovering fascinating locations and the beauty of the mountainous plateau.

John & Rosamund Macfarlane travelled with a Zanskari friend to the
“Remote Himalayan Kingdom of Zanskar”. Their talk brings a unique insight into the people, culture and landscapes of this 13,000 feet high valley.

Pam Dowson shows us the possibilities of an  
”Asian Cruise from Singapore” , visiting Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia & Singapore, by organising her own sightseeing.

Steuart & Anita Kellington will present their second talk of the season, entitled

“The Rich Heritage of Ethiopia” is Ann McCarthy’s journey this year. She experiences the history, scenery & cultural treasures of this unusual country, travelling to the source of the Blue Nile, Lalibella & its rock churches & the Simien Mountain National Park.

Tonight is the AGM  followed by Norman Harris who takes us to
“Hong Kong, where East Meets West” , and so we finish another season!
